iMTED – KI-basierter Energy Assistant

What is iMTED?

iMTED AI Energy Assistant analyzes smart-meter data of non-residential buildings to detect anomalies, forecast consumption, and optimize energy usage without requiring additional hardware. Commercial and institutional buildings often lose significant energy and water due to undetected equipment faults, inefficient operations, and limited real-time insights, while many existing solutions remain expensive and hardware-dependent. Designed for facility managers, property managers, universities, commercial building operators, and district-energy providers, iMTED uses physics-informed neural networks to identify irregular consumption patterns and their root causes using existing smart-meter infrastructure. This helps to reduce energy cost by up to 20% without major infrastructure investment.

How did you came up with iMTED?

The idea originated from the “Sustain(ATHON)” competition 2023, a hackathon organized by the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research (ENI) at the University of Stuttgart. Asheka Arafa with her previous work experience in the energy and water sector and Shahnewaz Shuva with a strong mathematical background joined the competition as a team and won the Audience award. With the help of business and technology experts from the startup ecosystem such as The Migrant Accelerator, Campus Founders, ENI, TTI GmbH, energy accelerator AXEL, deep tech accelerator Arise, we pursued customer research and realized the pain points with existing building energy management systems such as delayed realisation of anomalous events, monotonous job of finding energy guzzlers, less data insights etc. The savings potential through an efficient energy management system inspired us to formulate a startup.
