Start of studies for exchange students
Exchange students starting their studies at the HdM can look forward to an exciting and enriching time. From initial orientation to everyday study life, they will receive comprehensive support to make their start in Stuttgart as smooth as possible. In addition to the academic experience, HdM also offers support with practical issues such as accommodation and health insurance, so that international students can concentrate fully on their studies.

Have you met all the requirements for starting your degree programme?
Have you already mastered all the important steps for your stay abroad at the HdM, from the nomination by your home university to the final online application? Also think about planning your journey and the necessary health insurance.
If you are unsure whether you fulfil all the requirements or still have unresolved issues, you will find all the detailed information and instructions you need.

Your HdM Buddy
Starting at a new university can be a challenge, especially if you are also travelling to a new country or even a new continent! Your Buddy (a current HdM student) will make this experience a positive and rewarding one from the moment you arrive in Stuttgart.
The overall aim of the Buddy Programme is to support the mutual integration of international students and HdM students, to make new friends and to introduce exchange students to life at HdM. Our wonderful buddies will share their local knowledge with you and accompany you to various offices. They are also there for you if you need help with the German language or other new things you will discover at the beginning of your semester.
Let's create some #HDMemories together!
Your Buddy will support you with this
Arrival and first start
Your buddy will meet you at the airport or train station when you arrive in Stuttgart. If you live in a student hall of residence, they will be happy to help you move in.
Administrative procedures and finances
Your buddy will support you with important administrative procedures, such as registering with the city of Stuttgart. He or she will also help you open a German bank account, which is particularly important if you live in a hall of residence or have German health insurance. If you need to extend your visa or residence permit, he will accompany you to the Stuttgart Immigration Office.
Studying and campus life
He or she will help you set up your study plan online and access your HdM e-mail address. Your buddy will also help you activate your HdM student ID card and apply for your ticket for the Stuttgart public transport network (VVS).
Integration and ongoing support
Your buddy will accompany you to social events and will be on hand throughout the semester to answer any further questions that may arise.
