Technisches Produktmanagement – Technisches Design

Equips graduates with the skills to work in professional product management in a way that is resilient to AI – in line with the motto “Product. Packaging. Future.”

The programme teaches how to develop innovative products and successfully establish them on the market – in a career field with excellent long-term prospects. From the initial idea through to distribution, the focus is on product management and sustainable packaging solutions. This combines technical design with economic considerations: materials, function, costs and aesthetics are optimally integrated. Practical projects with companies provide early real-world insights and contacts within the industry. Future-oriented topics such as sustainability, digitalisation and AI are actively utilised – as supporting tools, not as a substitute. After all, creative development, interdisciplinary thinking and responsibility in the market remain human skills. Graduates are therefore sought-after all-rounders with stable career prospects.

Basic study programme

From the idea to the product: engineering training for practical application

‘Technisches Produktmanagement – Technisches Design’ is a solid technical degree programme leading to a Bachelor of Engineering degree that combines technological expertise, creativity and practical experience. It covers the fundamentals of engineering, system and process skills in product development, materials science, manufacturing technology, production-orientated construction and design as well as economic and creative skills for communication with other disciplines such as design, production, logistics, marketing and sales. There is also a focus on sustainability, for example life cycle assessment, the use of biogenic materials or analysing recycling processes.

A central element of the programme is practical project work in small groups, often in collaboration with industry. Students have the opportunity to experiment with the latest technologies, machines and systems in excellently equipped workshops and laboratories, produce prototypes themselves and test and optimise innovative product ideas.

The ‘Technisches Produktmanagement’ specialisation focuses on the management and support of a product throughout its entire life cycle. It focuses on the legal conformity of products in an international environment, technological and economic understanding throughout the entire product life cycle and the management of the entire product development and creation process, including the associated innovation processes. The aim is to efficiently manage all processes from product development to recycling and to ensure market success.

The ‘Technisches Design von Verpackungssystemen’ degree programme focuses on the development of functional, smart and sustainable packaging solutions. Packaging is viewed as an integral part of a product - as a systemic unit. Technical functionalities, construction, choice of materials, ecological aspects and creative design play a central role. The aim is to develop innovative packaging solutions in terms of technology and design that place particular emphasis on efficient production, logistics, user-friendliness and ecological sustainability.
