  1. What is University of Media?

    The short name is HdM.
    HdM is a public university.

    At HdM people become media experts.

    • Some people learn one special thing.
    • Some people learn many different media jobs.
       
  2. What can you study

    HdM has 30 study programs.

    There are Bachelor programs.
    Bachelor means: first degree.

    There are Master programs.
    Master means: second degree.

    All programs are officially approved.
    That means: accredited.

    You can study many things.
    For example:

    • Printing
    • Film and sound
    • Information management
    • Computer science
    • Advertising
    • Media production
    • Media business
    • Packaging technology 
       

    All study programs have theory and practice.
    This means:

    • You read books.
    • You try things yourself.
       

    Students do many projects.

    They learn about:

    • media content
    • technology
    • business
       

    They also practice teamwork.
    They solve difficult tasks.

    The study content is checked often.
    It is often updated.

    To match new developments in media.

    In Bachelor programs there is one practical semester.
    That means: one semester working in a company.

    HdM works together with other universities.
    There you can also earn a doctorate.
    Doctorate means: PhD.

    HdM has a research institute.
    It is called Institute for Applied Research.

    The institute does projects on new topics.

    For example:

    • printed electronics
    • digital media
    • information design
       
  3. Numbers and facts

    HdM has about 5,500 students.
    There are 30 study programs:

    • 19 Bachelor
    • 7 Master directly after Bachelor
    • 4 Master while working
       

    HdM has 130 professors.
    And 351 staff members.
    There are also many external teachers.

    Each year there are about 7,500 applications.
    But only 1,400 people get a study place.

    HdM works together with more than 120 universities worldwide.

    There is a library.
    It has about 150,000 books and media.

    HdM has guiding values.
    Guiding values are rules for how we live together.
    All people at HdM helped to write them.

    The Senate and the University Council agreed on them.
    That was on November 5, 2020.

    Our values are:

    Everyone can join.
    Everyone should join.
    Everyone can say what they think.

    Responsibility
    What we do changes society.
    So we take responsibility.

    We want to make new things.

    We learn from them.

    We are open and clear.
    Our information is easy to understand.
    You can rely on our information.

    Trust
    We trust each other.
    We work together as partners.

    Diversity
    We respect differences between people and topics.
    Together we make a diverse university.

    We are a place for exchange.
    We are a place for opportunities. 
    We create good conditions for this.

    This way we can understand change.
    And open new ways.
