In principle, applicants can also be admitted to 3-semester Master's degree programmes if they have acquired fewer than 210 ECTS credits as part of their Bachelor's degree. In this case, however, an individual comparison of the competences and qualifications acquired during and after the Bachelor's degree programme with the entry competences and qualifications required for the intended Master's degree programme is required before admission to the degree programme. Competences acquired after the Bachelor's degree programme can also be acquired through relevant professional experience, for example.
If gaps in the applicant's competence and qualification profile are identified during the comparison of competences, which is usually carried out by the Dean of Studies or members of the selection committee of the intended Master's degree programme, the Dean of Studies or the member of the selection committee will propose a Learning Agreement aimed at closing the identified gaps. As part of the Learning Agreement, Bachelor's courses, independent academic work or internships can be proposed, for example.
If this proposal is accepted by the applicant and signed and submitted upon enrolment, the work specified in the Learning Agreement must be completed as so-called "harmonisation work" by the time the Master's thesis is registered.
The harmonisation achievements are not taken into account when determining the overall grade of the Master's degree. However, they can be shown on the certificate upon request.
Completion of the alignment work can be repeated as often as desired within the maximum duration of study, which is six semesters for 3-semester Master's degree programmes. If the agreed harmonisation achievements include practical periods of study, these are compulsory practical periods of study analogous to practical periods of study in Bachelor's degree programmes.
Further details on the harmonisation requirements can be found in the study and examination regulations. The comparison of acquired and required competences and qualifications can be carried out prior to submitting the application. This means that the signed Learning Agreement can be submitted with the application. If this is not possible, an application and admission is also possible without this prior comparison. However, enrolment is then subject to revocation until the Learning Agreement is submitted and can be withdrawn by the Hochschule der Medien.
The Learning Agreement must be submitted by the first day of lectures at the latest.
In order to have clarity in advance of an application about the extent of the follow-up work that may be necessary, it is advisable to attend an appropriate counselling interview before applying. If the proposed Learning Agreement includes an academic paper or an internship, these can be
