Are you interested in individual courses at the Hochschule der Medien, but don't want to enrol on a full degree programme? Then a guest student programme is just right for you.

Who can register for a guest student programme?
In principle, any interested person can apply to be a guest student -
regardless of school or professional qualifications. Non-matriculated persons such as
senior citizens are also welcome. There is no age limit.

Application for guest lectureship
Fill in the application form for guest student status and send it to:
Hochschule der Medien
Studienbüro
Nobelstraße 10
70569 Stuttgart
or electronically to studienbuero@hdm-stuttgart.de
If you have decided to attend lectures at the HdM as a guest student, the next step is to formally register. The process is straightforward and requires only a few formalities. It is important that you inform yourself in good time and adhere to the
necessary deadlines so that nothing stands in the way of your participation. Below you will find the most important information about the application process.
The application for guest auditor status can be sent either electronically or by post to the university's study office.
Ideally, the application should be submitted before the start of the lecture period of a semester. The exact deadlines can be found in the HdM calendar.
To apply for guest lectureship, you will generally need the completed application for guest lectureship. In certain cases - such as particularly popular courses - proof of previous professional or specialised knowledge may also be required. For some courses, especially those with a limited number of participants, the consent of the respective lecturer is also required.

Advantages of being a guest student
A guest lectureship at the HdM offers you the opportunity to attend selected
courses and thus to deepen your knowledge in specific subject areas
- without any examination pressure. It is ideal for people who want to further their professional or
private education without having to take up a full degree programme. A particular advantage of
is the flexibility to organise your personal study plan: you choose which
modules interest you and can therefore set your own individual focus. In addition,
you gain a direct insight into everyday university life and benefit from the
exchange with students and lecturers
Participation in courses as a guest student is subject to certain conditions. These include, above all, a small participation fee and possible access restrictions for individual courses. Below you will find the most important information on the costs and requirements for guest students at the HdM
Yes, there is a small fee per semester. The current amount is staggered and is as follows: Up to 3 SWS (semester hours per week) € 100 and over 3 SWS € 200. You can also find the fee amount in the application form.
In some cases, participation is restricted - for example, due to a maximum number of participants or for courses with a particular practical relevance. A final decision is always made by the respective lecturer.
Please note that not all courses are open to guest students, e.g. practical courses, laboratory courses or internal projects.
You can find an overview of the lectures and modules that can be attended in the respective degree programmes under "Course content". There you can find specific information about the content and admission requirements. For a targeted selection, it is advisable to view the overview at an early stage and, if necessary, to consult the Central Student Advisory Service
As guest students are primarily there for personal interest and further education, examinations are not the main focus. As a rule, guest students do not sit examinations and do not receive ECTS points. However, on request and after consultation with the lecturers, a certificate of achievement can be issued in certain cases
