The appointment of professors is governed by the Baden-Württemberg Higher Education Act (Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG). Compliance with the legal requirements is a matter of course and follows a strictly regulated procedure in order to fill the position in the best possible way. It therefore takes several months before the appointment is finally granted or cancelled.
The university forms an appointment committee, which accompanies the entire appointment process and is responsible for drawing up an appointment proposal. Information about the ongoing procedure may not be provided. The composition of the appointment committee is regulated by law in the LHG and comprises at least seven or more members.
- You apply in response to a job advertisement and receive a confirmation of receipt.
- We will review and check your application documents for formal legal requirements and eligibility for appointment.
- If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to a public trial lecture followed by a non-public interview with the appointment committee.
- On the basis of the selection procedure, the appointment committee will draw up an appointment proposal with first, second and third place.
- This is followed by further statements and decisions by various bodies and committees.
- Once agreement has been reached, the Rector issues the appointment.
- If you are not on the nomination list, you will receive a competitor notification with the names of the persons listed.
- If you are ranked second or third, you will receive interim information.
- After written acceptance of the appointment offer, all other applicants will receive a written rejection.
- In principle, the appointment is made as a professor with civil servant status. If the requirements under civil service law are not met, an employment contract will be concluded. The appointment procedure ends with the appointment or the conclusion of an employment contract.
