Information for first-year students
The University Library is much more than just a place for books; it is your indispensable partner for academic success and offers you access to countless academic databases and digital publications. On this page you will find all the important information you need for a successful start at the HdM.
How-To
User account
As soon as you are enrolled, an individual library user account will be created automatically. It is not necessary to register in person at the library.
The account can be accessed via our online catalogue, the so-called WebPac.
The HdMCard is also your library user card.
You can generally use this account to control all physical borrowing processes for media and technical equipment in the library, provided that access to the media in the library is possible.
Digital library
Access
With a few exceptions, these services can also be used by all members of the university outside the library. Access and authentication take place via the Shibboleth procedure.
Attention:
First-year students must activate their HdM account for external access.
Instructions for activating the account will be sent with the enrolment confirmation.
Access to researching the digital collections
- WebPac: In addition to the conventional print holdings (books, journals, DVDS etc.), all e-books and e-journals licensed by the HdM can also be searched and accessed in this online catalogue. It is best to use the RDS system to search for specialised articles.
- Resource Discovery System - The RDS of the HdM is a meta-search portal. With a single search query, you can search the physical and digital library holdings, including the licenced specialist articles from the most important HdM databases.
- Google Scholar: Searches the internet for scientific literature. Mainly digital publications are displayed. Depending on the setting, you can immediately see the HdM licence.
- DBIS Portal - All databases licensed by the HdM are listed here and can be accessed individually.
- Statistical data can be found via Statista and Tilasto
- Online video tutorials can be found via the Linkendin Learning platform
