Disadvantage compensation
The Hochschule der Medien is committed to the inclusion of its prospective and current students and will support you in your studies accordingly. There are various contact persons available to you who you can get in touch with before you apply and then during your studies. Here you can find the most important information at a glance.
In which cases can compensation for disadvantages be applied for?
Allocation of study places
(for degree programmes with limited admission)
Personal or family circumstances that represent a particular burden can influence a student's academic career. In certain cases, an application for compensation for disadvantages can therefore be submitted as part of the application. There are three possible special applications for this:
- Application for compensation for disadvantages to improve the average grade (of the university entrance qualification)
- Application for compensation for disadvantages to improve the waiting time
- Hardship application (circumstances that may require immediate admission to the degree programme)
If you submit one of these special applications, you must enclose suitable evidence.
More infoStudying with a disability or chronic illness
Studying with a disability or a chronic mental or physical illness can present particular challenges. The HdM would like to support you in organising your studies well and successfully.
Your first point of contact here is Prof Dr Mathias Hinkelmann as the representative for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses. He can advise you, for example, on what measures can be taken to compensate for the impairment at the HdM and how you can submit a written application for compensation for disadvantages to the relevant examination board of your faculty. The application requires a personal declaration and a medical certificate of the disability or illness.
You can find the relevant regulations at the HdM in the Study and Examination Regulations (SPO) Part A, § 32.
Studying with a child
If you become pregnant during your studies or already have children that you are caring for during your studies, this can be taken into account during the course of your studies. You can find an initial insight into which regulations apply to you in the Study and Examination Regulations (SPO) - Part A, § 30 and § 31.
There are several contact points that you can contact regarding this matter. If you have any questions about support services offered by the HdM that do not concern your course of study or are of a financial nature, the representative for family-friendly universities or the currently elected Equal Opportunities Officer can help. The social counselling service of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart also provides advice on financial support and childcare.
Hint
All discussions with your contact persons are confidential. If you are not sure exactly who to contact with your concerns or need individual help in dealing with your challenges during your studies, you can contact the Central Student Advisory Service at any time.
