

PhD programme in cooperation with Swansea University, Wales
- The full-time degree programme usually lasts three years.
- The duration of the programme is extended accordingly for part-time students.
- After successfully submitting the dissertation and passing an oral examination, Swansea University awards the title of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor). This degree is equivalent to the German doctoral degree and is recognised both in Germany and internationally.
- Supervision is provided by a main supervisor at Swansea University, supported by a professor at the HdM.
- Since the winter semester 2024/2025, the HdM has also been offering the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in collaboration with Swansea University.
- This is designed to take a total of four years and is organised on a part-time basis.

PhD programme in cooperation with the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland
Stuttgart Media University (HdM) has been offering a Master's and doctoral programme with the Glasgow School of Art since 2025.
The joint programme focuses on design-based research. Graduates of the HdM with a Bachelor's or Master's degree can take part in the programme.
- The full-time programme is generally designed for one year (three semesters).
- In the part-time model, the duration of study is extended to two years.
- There are no traditional lessons.
- Research is carried out under the guidance of a permanent team of supervisors.
- In addition, students take part in one-week "seasonal schools" in which practical research skills are taught. This is ideal preparation for the start of the project.
- The programme includes a practice-oriented Master of Research degree at the Glasgow School of Art.
- After graduation, a doctorate in design is possible.
