Family at the university
The Hochschule der Medien has set itself the task of creating better conditions for the compatibility of family and career or studies.
The aim here is not only to ensure family-friendly working conditions for university employees, but also family-friendly study conditions for students.
Since September 2017, HdM has been a member of Familie in der Hochschule e.V. The aim of the initiative is to promote the compatibility of work and family life. From December 2011 until the change in September 2017, HdM was a member of the "audit familiengerechte hochschule".

Responsibility for more family-orientation at universities
The "Family in Higher Education" charter was published in January 2014 and sets high standards for family-orientation. By signing the charter, university management expresses their commitment and responsibility for more family-orientation at their university and networks with Familie in der Hochschule e.V. They see themselves as pioneers in the social development towards more family-orientation and appreciation of diversity. They see family-orientation as part of the university profile and stand by their social responsibility as places of education and life where the compatibility of studies, career and science with family responsibilities is lived and taken for granted. The "Family in Higher Education" charter is supported by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) as a strategy development for sustainable equal opportunities and family orientation in academia.
Career and family
The Hochschule der Medien also takes the aspect of family compatibility into account when scheduling committee meeting times. In the individual faculties, a consensual agreement on family-friendly committee meeting times is reached at the constituent meeting. These vary from department to department.
Regulations on the organisation of meetings:
- In principle, meetings at short notice are scheduled within the core working hours of the Hochschule der Medien. Meetings outside core working hours only take place if the time of the meeting has been agreed with the participants and is feasible for all participants.
- A start and target end time must be announced for all meetings. If this is exceeded, decisions made after the end time must be recorded and agreed with members who are no longer present at the time of the decision
- An agenda must be provided for meetings, in which the duration of the individual meeting points must also be roughly planned.
- All official meetings have a meeting chair. This person is responsible for ensuring that the agenda is adhered to and for time and documentation management
- The meeting times must be documented and are submitted and checked as part of the audit.

The Kidsbox
The KidsBox in the world of learning is a mobile children's room that is available to HdM members. The KidsBox can easily be taken to wherever it is needed.
