Language courses at the HdM

The HdM Language Centre opens its doors to anyone who wants to learn or improve a foreign language.
The extensive language programme is aimed at all HdM students and offers the opportunity to acquire recognised additional qualifications.

Courses offered by the Language Centre

The Language Centre offers courses in the following languages every semester: 
Chinese, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Swedish, Spanish and German Sign Language.

For international students, the Language Centre offers accompanying courses in German as a foreign language every semester.

To the course programme

Placement tests

Placement tests can be taken in German, English, French and Spanish. 
They are compulsory for participation in a language course from level A1.2.

  • German as a foreign language: Placement test (onSet)
  • English: Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT)
  • Spanish, French: Online test using the language learning software (Speexx)
  • Italian: Online test via Sprachtest.de

Students can register for the placement tests on the university intranet.

 

International language tests & certificates

The HdM offers internationally recognised language tests for English, Spanish and French. 
The language tests serve as proof of sufficient knowledge of the respective language for a semester abroad or an internship semester.

Further language learning programmes

With the language learning software Speexx you can learn different languages online free of charge. 
Our tandem programme gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas with a native speaker.

Co-operations

The Hochschule der Medien cooperates with the VESPA network for language matters. Members are the Hochschule für Technik (HFT), the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (ABK) and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (HMDK). The language courses are mutually recognised by the universities.
