| Description: | This doctoral thesis investigates how workers in off-highway work contexts – such as operating snow groomers or excavators – experience meaning in their work and how technological design can enhance this experience. These occupational groups, characterised by high physical demands and complex operating tasks, have so far been scarcely researched. The thesis is based on a four-dimensional model of meaning – significance, coherence, orientation and belonging – as well as on concepts of Positive User Experience. The aim is to systematically explore the experience of meaning and, from this, to derive specific design approaches for vehicle interfaces that promote a sense of meaning. In this way, the research combines studies on meaningful work, human–technology interaction and technology design. |
