| Description: | One of the major advantages of autonomous vehicles will be that passengers will no longer need to concentrate on driving, but will instead be able to use the journey time productively for other activities – such as watching a film or working. However, many people (roughly one in two) cannot enjoy this benefit as they suffer from motion sickness. This greatly reduces the appeal of autonomous vehicles for these individuals. The use of augmented reality could offer a solution to this problem, provided that apps are designed in such a way that they continue to provide relevant visual cues regarding the vehicle’s movement, thereby reducing sensory conflicts – a topic I am investigating as part of my PhD. |
